Jessica Sanchez sings the heck out of Prince on this rendition of “How Come You Don’t Call Me.” She performed this on August 12, 2012 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee as part of the 2012 American Idol Summer tour. I witnessed her sing this number in both Atlanta and in Nashville and it still gives me the chills. If you get the chance to see her in person, TAKE it (my free advice for today). Ms. Sanchez is an intoxicating combination of petite beauty, hip urban swagger and powerhouse voice all rolled into this lovely package.

In a music world currently filled with great women singers, she still manages to stand out in my mind as someone to watch! I cannot wait to hear her first album, which she has said will be released this November.
To be fair, on this particular number she also had the good fortune to have DeAndre Brackensick and Josh Ledet serving as backup vocals and dancers…talk about a lucky woman. DeAndre’s voice adds to the richness and sensuality of this tune, I honestly cannot say enough about this young performers voice and as I discovered on the tour, his magnetic stage presence. He was born to perform and when he is onstage, all eyes are drawn to him. With that smile, those already famous golden curls and rhythmic dance moves (he is also a hula dancer by the way, which might explain his sense of rhythm and movement) he is already intriguing, then on numbers where he is allowed to unleash his incomparable falsetto, hold me back, I’m storming the stage! (remember my tagline “by a fan, for fans” for I make no apologies for my fan adoration of DeAndre, Jessica and Josh)
Speaking of Josh Ledet, he is the third member of the trio performing this number and he is another of the men coming out of American Idol Season 12 that will surely have great impact on the music scene. Providing backup only on this occasion, we are not afforded the pleasure of his glorious “take you to church” solo style, but it’s there, simmering in the background and watching him dance with Mr. Brackensick is enchanting. His upcoming CD is definitely another on my “have to buy” list.
Here’s the video I shot in Nashville, apologies in advance for the blurry spots, I was about 15 rows back and kept trying to zoom in on DeAndre to no avail! And yes, I do realize that I trained the camera on he and Josh with some regularity…the combination of Jessica’s voice growling that signature growl, coupled with the dancing of two of my favorites distracted me…it happens! Hope you enjoy the vid nonetheless:

Sunny, youve done such a great job at this website for Dre. Just got a chance to go through all of it and youre so thorough. I would love to know what performances you think are his best including back-up performances. Some of them on other sites dont have the actual date and most of the time you do that. I love how you kept the camera on him bc he is facinating as a performer. I just wish he had more videos bc I have worn the other videos out. Another question is about his fan base. Since the show, has he gained more fans? I know he made a goal to try to get his haters rethinking. Do you think he’s succeeded? Well, keep up the great work and get back with me if you can! I know you must be really busy…great job though
Thanks so much for the nice words, glad you enjoyed the blog so far, it’s a work in progress for sure! Yes, I’ve seen DeAndre’s twitter followers increase a great deal since the show, he steadily gains fans each and every week. Oh, and thanks for the comments about my concert video! Like I always say, if I had been in the first few rows…watch out, it would have been a Dre video fiesta! I have video of all his performances but there’s just too many instances of tall people coming in and out of my view to make it worth posting them! As to which performances of his are my favorites, keep an eye on my blog this week! I’m going to do a series of 7 countdown videos to mark the last week of the tour and plan on recapping my fave concert moments. Hope you enjoy it – Sunny
